FFAME Health Assessment Study
Sunday, 01 November 2009 00:00

FINDINGS: After applying the components of FFAME there was an average increase in health knowledge of 138% for the 275 second grade students assessed.

Hypothesis: By offering second grade students a consistent weekly comprehensive health program there will be a statistically significant increase in health knowledge.

Components of Health Program:

  • Bi-weekly interactive Health Talk video that consistently educates second grade students on health facts, strategies, and best practices.  All videos aligned with national and state standards.
  • Teachers given review questions to go with each Health Talk video to reinforce learning.
  • Integrated activities tied to weekly Heath Talk videos.

 Measurements:

  • In September roughly 275 second grade students from 15 different classes were given a multiple choice health pre-test to determine their present level of health knowledge.
  • In May the same students were given the identical multiple choice health post-test to determine if there was an increase in health knowledge.
  • Data was collected and the mean (average) between the pre and post test was compared to determine the percentage increase in health knowledge.

RESULTS:

September Pre-Test Average: 29.3%

May Post-Test Average: 69.8%

Percentage increase in health knowledge    = (69.8 – 29.3) ÷ 29.3 x 100

                                                                   = 40.4 ÷ 29.3 x 100

                                                                   = 138%

CONCLUSION: After applying the components of FFAME there was an average increase in health knowledge of 138% for the 275 second grade students assessed.
